Celebrate Colorado Public Lands Day by giving a little back to the public lands we all love and recreate upon! Join South Park Ranger District and Wild Connections as we work to remove old fencing on National Forest land that creates a barrier to migrating wildlife. This community stewardship project will improve wildlife habitat for our neighboring herds of elk, deer, moose and pronghorn.
We will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the Fairplay area and work till about 3:00 p.m., when we’ll break for a celebration of public lands and our National Forest Service who manages them for us.
“Barb-wire defensible” clothing is required (heavy jeans/canvas pants, close-toed boots, thick long sleeves, and thick leather gloves), in addition to the standard list of personal outdoor gear (warm layers appropriate for the weather, hat, rain gear, sunscreen, eye protection/sunglasses, water, bug spray) and your personal lunch, water and snacks. Wild Connections will provide ice cream, beer, sodas, and water and nibbles for our post-project celebration.
Another consideration to being “barb-wire defensible” would include making sure you are up-to-date on your Tetanus shot!
This is a family-friendly project for engaged kids 12+ yrs of age.
Registration is required! Please contact Misi Ballard, with Wild Connections, at firstname.lastname@example.org to sign up. Meeting place details will be provided prior to our workday. There are miles of old fencing to take down, so the more, the merrier! Be sure to bring your neighbors and friends!
The exact meeting spot will be shared prior to the event
