Hike Spraddle Creek near Vail, a wilderness addition to Eagles Nest Wilderness Area proposed as part of the CORE Act. Join author, activist, and nature-based coach, Susie Kincade, to explore one of the last roadless areas near Vail and learn more about this exciting bi-cameral Bill that will protect 400,000 acres of wilderness, recreation, and habitat in Colorado. Susie will guide you on the trail and offer practices in “forest bathing” showing you ways to work with nature to heal body, mind and spirit. Learn about the value of wilderness as a prime economic driver in Colorado’s economy, and about its role in rejuvenating the human brain and body.

This moderate 6-mile hike rises 1200 feet along a ridge through aspen and conifer forests, across lush meadows, and crosses over two streams, with frequent stops to appreciate the views of Vail Mountain and marvel at the accessibility of such wildness. This area protects the fragile headwaters of Spraddle and Middle Creeks, which flow into Gore Creek right in Vail Village. The region is known to support populations of endangered Canadian lynx and Rocky Mountain goats.

Meet at 9:00 a.m. at the trailhead parking area just north of the northern roundabout at the main Vail exit 176 on I-70. Please pre-register for this hike and pack plenty of water, lunch, rain gear, sunscreen and all you need for a day in the wilderness.
