McKenna Peak Hike

May 18, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 5:00 pm

- Free

McKenna Peak sits within a Wilderness Study Area managed by the BLM on the San Miguel-Dolores County boundary. Included in the San Juan region of the CORE Act, this area is proposed for permanent Wilderness protections. Explore this beautiful, lesser-know corner of Western Colorado public land.

Hike: Easy with moderate spots. Explore the arroyos and sandstone ridges below McKenna Peak. Approximately 4 miles round trip with a moderate climb to Brumley Pt. giving an incredible view of McKenna Peak, the western San Juan range and the La Sals to the east.

Sign up deadline: May 13th

Be prepared with own day pack, water, lunch and snacks, and proper hiking footwear and clothing. Spring rains are possible so bring layers in case of sudden wet weather.

We’ll meet in Naturita at the Family Dollar parking lot at 9:30 am. We will return to Naturita by 5 pm. (Carpool options are available.)

*This hike is inaccessible in muddy, wet weather. Please be aware the hike may be postponed if storms exist
